NSA-Affäre belastet Freihandelsabkommen

EU-Kommissar Karel de Gucht hat den USA vorgeworfen, das geplante Freihandelsabkommen durch die NSA-Spionageaffäre zu belasten. "Die NSA-Affäre hat viel Misstrauen erzeugt", sagte de Gucht der "Süddeutschen Zeitung" (Donnerstag). "Ich stimme verärgerten Europäern zu: Das Ausmaß der NSA-Spionage ist unerträglich."

De Gucht selbst hat nach eigenen Angaben den US-Handelsbeauftragten Mike Froman in einem Brief gefragt, ob die NSA wie berichtet auch Handelsinstitutionen ausgespäht habe - und darauf bis heute keine Antwort erhalten.

Zum Freihandelsabkommen sagte de Gucht, die europäischen Gesundheits- und Umweltstandards würden nicht gesenkt. "Ich habe so oft gesagt, dass es kein Hormon-Rindfleisch aus den USA geben wird, dass man mir glauben sollte." Gegenteilige Behauptungen seien "komplette Lügen". Der 60 Jahre alte Belgier will auch in der neuen Kommission von November an wieder Handelskommissar werden.
