US-Regierung verlängert NSA-Spähprogramm

Das teilten das Justizministerium und das Büro des Nationalen Geheimdienstdirektors am Montag mit. Demnach kann die NSA vorerst für weitere 90 Tage Metadaten sammeln.

Das Ausmaß des Programms war im vergangenen Jahr von „WhistleblowerEdward Snowden enthüllt worden und hatte im In- und auch im Ausland teils heftige Empörung ausgelöst. Danach hatte Präsident Barack Obama der NSA einige Beschränkungen auferlegt.

Der Mitteilung zufolge gelten diese Restriktionen weiterhin. Allerdings hat der Kongress Obamas Vorschlag, dass die Daten künftig bei Kommunikationsgesellschaften gespeichert werden sollen, bisher nicht abgesegnet. Damit bleibt es zumindest vorerst dabei, dass der Staat diese Informationen aufbewahrt.
