B-52-Bomber bekommen erstes IT-Upgrade seit 1961

Die IT-Systeme der wohl längst-dienenden US-Militärflugzeuge erhalten erstmals seit den 1960er Jahren ein Upgrade. Die B-52-Bomber sind nun netzwerkfähig.

Als John F. Kennedy als amtierender US-Präsident das Land regierte, war die Technologie in den B-52-Bombern auf dem neusten Stand. Seither hat sich bei den IT-Systemen der Militärflugzeuge nicht viel geändert.

Mit CONECT (Combat Network Communications Technology), so schreibt arstechnica, bekommen die Boeing B-52 Stratofortress eine zeitgemäßes Update, das im Prinzip nichts anderes ist als Netzwerk-Hub. Über eine Breitband-Satellitenverbindung kann nun die Crew der B-52 mit anderen Systemen des US-Verteidigungsministeriums in Kontakt treten, neue Einsatzpläne empfangen und abgefeuerte Raketen steuern.

Die Rechner und Instrumente für die Crew-Mitglieder werden ebenso erneuert. So wurden etwa die alten Monochrom-Bildschirme durch "multifunktionale Farb-Displays" ersetzt und mit Tastaturen und Trackballs ausgestatte. Auch das OnBoard-Kommunikationssystem wurde ausgetauscht. Die Crew kann nun über einen Chat kommunizieren und mehrere Systeme gleichzeitig bedienen.
